Laois 1s vs Railway Union 4ths 23rd September 2023

Laois HC started the game fast with some good work up front and were unlucky not to score. Railway Union defended well however and made life difficult for the Laois forwards.

Late in the 2nd quarter, a short corner was given against Laois which was well cleared by Karen Fingleton and passed up the field and resulted in a lovely finish by Meabh Rafter. This was followed by a second goal moments later by Ruth Maxwell which was unfortunately disallowed. There were great exhibits of lovely fast play by some younger players and lots of very skilful play from some of the more established players.

The second half started well for Laois as they were very threatening with plenty of shots on target and a good few short corners.

Railway Union never gave up though and were rewarded with another short corner which again was well defended by Laois. Ruth Maxwell's disallowed goal was avenged in the last quarter when she again found the backboard to bring Laois's lead to 2-0. Laois Hockey Club hope to continue this winning form in their match vs UCD 6ths next Saturday in UCD at 12.25.
