Laois HC 2s played their second league match of the season against Malahide in very wet conditions in Loreto Kilkenny.
They started well and scored within the first ten minutes of the match when right wing, Penny Wilkinson made a super pass to Evana Cassidy standing at the penalty spot.
The second goal came only a few minutes later when another pass from Penny found Gloria Lewisβ stick and another great strike from Gloria found the back of the net.
Laois were unlucky not to score in the second quarter. It wasnβt for the want of trying by centre forward Gloria Lewis, who put her body on the line a few times and came off the worse for wear at half time.
Laois applied more pressure in the third quarter and were awarded several short corners. Gloria found the back of the net again in the fourth quarter following a strike from a short but unfortunately it wasnβt allowed as it didnβt hit the backboard.
Shortly afterwards, Maeve Rafter linked up with the very athletic newcomer, Grace Cunningham, who scored her first goal on her debut for the team.
It was a strong performance from all the team and special credit goes to all the younger players who have only just started playing with the team. Ellen Harvey was unlucky not to score from one of her fabulous reverse stick strikes and Mikayla Lahart put in a strong performance in both defence and midfield. A special welcome to our other debutant, Ruth Talbot, in goals who helped to keep the score board clear today.
It was a very offensive game with all the backs pushing up well to support the midfield players. Overall a much improved performance for the 2s, scoring all goals from play. There was some great passing between all players and a very promising sign of things to come. We look forward to our next away game on 14th of October in Lucan.
