Laois 1s team v Pembroke 6th

Laois 1s team were at home in Loreto College, Kilkenny at the weekend and welcomed @pembrokewanderers 6th team to their home venue. It was a beautiful warm October morning with clear blue skies and unusually high temperatures that reached 21 degree during the mid morning. Laois 1s team started off a little nervous with silly errors on the ball but five minutes into the first quarter the cob webs were shook off and they began to play as a unit working ball up the pitch.

The first quarter the home side did not manage to hit the back of the net but it wasn’t for the lack of trying and effort by our forwards. Shortly into the second quarter Esmee who was played centre forward found the net with a clean sweep pass their goalkeeper. This goal settled the home side as they held the majority of the possession for the remainder of the second quarter.

The third quarter the home side defenders of Claire, Susan, Karen and Liz kept the visitors from equalising the score. The midfield players Jess, Averil and Abigail moved the ball quickly up the field which put significant pressure on Pembrokes defenders which led to Abigail securing the second goal of the day.

The fourth and final quarter the Laois 1s team were in control with clean breaks up the wings which put more pressure on the defence and a number of short corners were awarded. Overall a very impressive performance from all the players involved.

The Laois 1s team are in action again next Saturday 14th of October away against Avoca.
