Laois HC2s travelled to Muckross on Saturday 9th December. Numbers were a bit depleted as some of the players were still carrying injuries from the Portrane game a few weeks ago.
We werenβt sure what the afternoon would bring with the orange wind warning alerts all over the M50 on the trip up. Laois lost the toss and had to play against the wind in the first half and it was blowing us and the ball all over the field. A lot of mishit passes as the ball was just blown away from the stick.
However, they soon settled into the game with a goal in the first quarter coming from centre forward, Shauna Walsh. Another goal came early in the second quarter from Faye Delaney who covered an awful lot of ground during the match. Evana had a few unlucky wides but was well positioned on the left post throughout.
We had the wind at our backs in the second half thankfully and Penny Wilkinson carried the ball herself from midfield and scored a great goal in the third quarter. Evana Cassidy had an unfortunate clash of heads and had to come off in the third quarter with concussion.
Faye Delaney added to the final tally with a lovely tomahawk in the last quarter. There was great defensive positioning by newcomer Lily Van den Bergh and Mikayla Lahart worked really hard in midfield to keep the pressure on Muckross. Laois had to defend a number of short corners in the last quarter but defended well to keep Muckross out.
Laois finished the match 4-0. Well done to everyone for a great away win in difficult conditions.
We look forward to our next match against Malahide on Saturday December 16th which will be the last match before Christmas.
