Laois 2s played Weston in their first match of 2024 in very cold conditions. It was the first time for all the team to don their new kit which was very exciting for everyone.

The first quarter was very closely contested with neither team scoring. The first goal of the game came in the second quarter from Gloria Lewis, recently returned from injury. This was followed a few minutes later by another goal from Grace Cunningham. Assists from Faye Delaney and Yvonne Hargroves who had great games in midfield. The backs, as always, were solid in defence.

Weston scored late in the third quarter to bring the score to 2-1 but a quick counter attack resulted in the third goal from Shauna Walsh.

Evana Cassidy scored the last goal of the game in the 4th quarter despite a number of injuries during the course of the game!

Laois 2s take on Boyne next Saturday 20th January in what is going to be a very important fixture for the team. Portrane drew with Boyne yesterday- these teams are 2nd and 3rd respectively in the league table at the moment so we will have to bring our best game next weekend!
