Laois HC2s played North Kildare in Loreto Kilkenny on Saturday February 10th. The first quarter was very close with Laois slow to settle. The 3 Neuman-Jones family members were out in force for North Kildare playing goalie, sweeper and centre back and made life difficult for the Laois attack.

They improved in the second half with some good attacking runs from midfield by Lisa Kennedy.

The first goal came halfway through the second half from Faye Delaney who was drafted into centre forward for the game as Laois were missing some key personnel.

Both Evana Cassidy and Tara Lalor were unlucky not to score on the post from short corners, the North Kildare goalie again making life difficult.

Lisa Kennedy was eventually rewarded for all her hard work with a second goal in the third quarter. Β She had to put her camogie skills to good use with all the high balls coming at her. She narrowly escaped a ball to the head.

North Kildare never gave up and continued to pressurise the Laois defence in the last quarter and scored from a short corners in the last quarter. Aisling Gormley, Jenny Keegan, Tara Lalor and Charlotte Nagle all had great games in defence and Laois finished the match with a 2-1 win.

Eleanor Doherty made an impressive debut playing for the club after years of coaching at underage level.

Laois need to win their next 2 league matches home and away to Rathgar to secure promotion to the next division so plenty of excitement to come in the weeks ahead.
