Laois HC2s took on Portrane away in the semi-final of the Division 11/12 cup on Saturday February 24th. Laois got a bye in the first round and had beaten Monkstown in the quarter finals of cup to earn their spot.

We knew heading up it was going to be a tough match and we weren’t wrong. The Portrane centre back and midfield were very strong and it was very difficult to break down their defence and win back possession. The Laois defence were under serious pressure throughout the game and had to defend several short corners during the course of the game. Faye Delaney and Grace Cunningham covered an awful lot of ground in midfield. Portrane eventually scored from a short corner in the third quarter. Laois continued to work hard until the final whistle and everybody gave it their all, but it wasn’t our day.

The Portrane hospitality after the game helped to soften the blow! Thanks to everyone for all their good wishes for the team and to all the supporters who travelled on the day. It was very much appreciated by all of us. We wish Portrane all the best in the Cup final in a few weeks. We look forward to our next match versus Rathgar on Saturday 2nd March. If we win on Saturday we will have won the league,so the pressure is on for another big performance next weekend.
