Laois HC2s travelled to Botanic hockey club in Glasnevin for their third league match of the season. They almost had to start with only 9 players following some serious traffic delays on the M50 with the Munster/ Leinster game and some Google maps fiascos for some of the players! Thankfully the refs were lenient on the day.
Laois were slow to settle in the first quarter with a few missed opportunities on goals.
Ruth Wilkinson scored shortly after the start of the second quarter from attacking play and helped to settle the team.
The Laois press was very effective throughout the game and Botanic struggled to gain possession from their own hitouts. Laois continued to pile on the pressure on the Botanic defence.
Gloria Lewis did Trojan work in centre midfield and eventually was rewarded with a score from a deflection after an attempted save by the Botanic goalie in the third quarter.
The game finished 2-0 to Laois and the team were very grateful for some lovely refreshments afterwards, kindly provided by the Botanic team.
A super result considering Laois had only 1 sub following unfortunate injuries to some key players. All of the younger players really stepped up on the day when needed. Well done to all.
We look forward to a home match versus Glennane next Saturday 19th October.
