Laois 2s travelled up to Clontarf on Saturday afternoon last. Both teams started guns blazing but a quick pass from Eleanor in midfield to Julie on the right wing got us inside their 23 where she passed it into Gloria, who was efficiently able to find the backboard.
The Clontarf counter attack was swift, but the threat of an equaliser was kept at bay by Charlotte and Eimear. Ruth ended up getting a ball to the knee, thatβs when Mikayla stepped up to fill her position in midfield. The forwards were pushing up and it felt like another goal was coming. Both Mikayla and Julie found chances in the circle but both were unlucky to not score. Mids Eleanor and Averil kept the balls coming up the wings but by half time the score remained nil all.
Laois started the second half strong with the forward line made up of 60% goalkeepers. Laois effectively used guard players and effective passing to work up the pitch. There was great defence by Claudia, who stopped the Clontarf attackers in their tracks.
.A strike from Eleanor in the circle got a deflection into the goal making the score line 2-0. A high ball was sent up from the midline, which forward Evana picked up just as it was going over the touch line. She ran an arc run to send it into the circle which Gloria once again effortlessly directed it to the backboard.
The second half saw a seige in midfield where Pam and Ruth worked hard to slow the counter attack. In the last play of the last quarter Aisling won a short corner. Averil injected the ball out and Eleanor swiftly found the backboard ending the game on a 4-0 win
The final scoreline reflects the seamless performance from first to the final whistle. Well done to all the players and supporters on the day.
Laois 2s are back in action this Saturday at home as they welcome Portrane 4ths to Loreto College, Kilkenny.
