Laois 2s made the long trip to face Wicklow 2s on Saturday, 27th September. The weather was far from favourable for a hockey game, but the Laois ladies hit the ground running with some fantastic passing from midfield up to the forward line of Sophie , Emily Emerson, and Molly . There were a number of shots on goal in the first quarter; however, none successfully hit the backboard.

It wasn't until the second quarter that Laois secured the first goal of the game. This came from a short corner, which debutant player Suzi  capitalised on with a strong sweep into the opposition’s goal. Wicklow applied plenty of pressure on the Laois backline of Pam Halberstadt, Emma Hewison, Vicky Barton, and Emma Holohan. There were a number of remarkable saves by Laois goalkeeper Charlotte Nagle, who swapped her usual outfield position of right back to step into goal for this match. The score remained 1–0 to Laois at the end of the second quarter.

The heavy rain subsided at the start of the third quarter — a welcome relief for all players on the pitch. Laois’s second goal came from Molly, who received a powerful pass from midfield player Ciara. There was some lovely link-up play from the sister duo Lily and Molly in the forward line, with Sophie attacking the circle on several occasions. A quick ball from the sideline by midfielder Jenny Holohan to Ciara Nagle created another opportunity, which forward player Suzi seized to score her second goal of the day.

Wicklow responded quickly on the counter-attack and were awarded a short corner. The Laois defenders made a great effort to keep them out, but unfortunately, the ball deflected off goalkeeper Charlotte Nagle’s left boot and into the goal.

In the final quarter, Laois fought hard to maintain their lead. They were delighted to hear the final whistle, with the score remaining 3–1 in their favour. This marks their second consecutive win, placing them at the top of the Leinster League Division 10 table for the second week in a row.

A special thank you to Buen, who managed the sideline seamlessly for the Laois team. Well done to the following players who made their debut for Laois 2s: Emma Hewison, Suzi, and Emily Emerson. Laois 2s look forward to welcoming Clontarf 4s to Loreto Kilkenny for their third game of the 2025/26 season.
