On a very windy afternoon LHC 2s team hosted Clontarf HC 4ths for their third match of the season.
Facing the wind in the first half, the home team started strong with multiple attacks on the left and right wings followed by good intervention play by the midfield players of Emma H, Ciara, Sophie and Jenny. The team were rewarded with an early first quarter goal from the stick of Ciara which helped settle the team.
Second quarter saw the opposition spreading the ball across the pitch with ease and meant the Laois side had to step up the work rate to gain back possession. A strong press from the forward partnership of Lily, Emily, Abbie and Louise meant that several more entries into the opposition D but the first half finished 1-0.
The half time talk from coaches Paul and Beun requested more focus on clear concise passing and the team stated the 3rd Quarter with this in mind. The defence of Pam (Captain), Kellie, Vicky, Emma H and Charlotte cleared plenty of attacking play and the strong presence of Eimear in goals meant that the short corners were dealt with.
The Laois side continued to build play from midfield and after several good attacks on goal a rebound was collected by Ciara and found the backboard to have the home side 2-0 in 3rd quarter. The team put in a united final few minutes and the home win means the team leads the top of Division 10 but with a tough game next weekend against 2nd placed Carlow HC away.
