Laois 2s v Trinity 4s (18/10/25)

Laois 2s were at home this weekend and welcomed Trinity to Loreto, Kilkenny. This was expected to be a tough challenge for the Laois side.

The first quarter began with Laois under pressure for the opening few minutes. The backline of Kellie, Charlotte, Jenny (Captain) and Vicky made great contributions to keep the visitors from crossing the line. Goalkeeper Daisy was alert at all times and made some excellent saves.

It was a high-tempo game, and the Laois midfield trio of Averil, Emma, and Lily rose to the challenge, keeping the ball moving up to the forward line. Unfortunately, the visitors secured a goal from a short corner in the last few minutes of the first quarter, leaving the scoreline 1–0 to Trinity.

The introduction of Yvonne at centre forward, supported by Molly and Suzi, provided the home side with numerous chances on goal, but they were unfortunately unable to convert. Laois debutant Danielle was very unlucky to injure herself after coming on in her first league match, and we wish her a speedy recovery. This stoppage in play brought the second quarter to an end.

The opening minutes of the third quarter saw the visitors score again, breaking through the middle of the pitch for their second goal of the day. However, Laois continued to press forward, with Eleanor making some great passes to the awaiting forwards. There was some excellent link-up play between the midfielders and forwards, creating an opportunity for Yvonne to score Laois’s first goal. Trinity responded quickly with another goal, extending their lead to 3–1.

At the start of the final quarter, Laois certainly didn’t give up. Great play from Sophie and Abbie up front kept the Trinity defence on their toes. Unfortunately, the visitors secured another goal in the final few minutes, leaving the final score 4–1 to Trinity.

Laois fought hard throughout the game against a very strong side and now welcome a well-earned break next weekend with no league matches. A special mention goes to the mother–daughter duo of Kellie and Daisy, who played their first match together — pictured below. Thank you to all the supporters who travelled to the game.
