On Saturday, Laois 2s hosted North Kildare 4s at Loreto Kilkenny with a full squad of players available. A debut match for Molly B, and the team welcomed the return of Gloria L to full forward and Pam H to her left back position.
The game tipped off, and within minutes, the home team found themselves defending a short corner. The steady presence of goalie Ruth and defenders Averil, Vicky, Kellie, and Charlotte cleared their lines quickly and allowed the team to settle and build attack from the back line.
A fast exchange passes from mid field trio of Eleanor, Ciara, and Jenny allowed for plenty of good supply of balls to the forwardline of Gloria, Abbie, and Sophie. The North kildare goalie was proving hard to beat, but ongoing attack allowed the home team to end the 1st quarter with well executed.
goals from the experienced players Gloria and Eleanor. The team started to settle in the 2nd quarter, moving the ball well around the back, and there was plenty of strong clearing ball from Pam on the left back position. Amy, in the right mid position, instigated quick runs up the line with plenty of link-up play to Mikalya.
North kildare pushed attack through the mid field, but Ciara, working hard on recovering possession, pushed into the D and slipped a strong pass to the right of the NK goalie. A series of short corners allowed goal no 4 to come from the stick of Ciara, and the last play before half time saw Molly tip in her first goal for the team.
Half time 5-0. Team talk from Coach Buen asked for players to continue to work on strong passing and build up play, and the team didn't let up in the 3rd quarter. Sophie ran some strong baseline runs and was rewarded for her efforts with a goal. Again, the strong duo of Eleanor and Gloria found the backboard for 3 further goals. The last quarter saw North Kildare hit some strong balls down field, but any entrance into the D was dealt with well by goalie Ruth and the defence.
Full time 9-0 and the win for the home team allowed them to rebuild confidence as they face two more games before Christmas.
