Laois 2s travelled to Rathdown School to take on Monkstown 7s team on a frosty Saturday afternoon. The Laois side welcomed back Jayne into the experienced Laois back line of Charlotte, Kellie, Vicky and Pam. The opening minutes of the game the visiting Laois side held most of the possession with great energy and enthusiasm from midfield trio of Ciara, Jenny and Molly. The first quarter ended with no score on the scoreboard for either team.

The second quarter began with the same intensity with the forward line of Suzi, Ellen and Zoe making several attempts on goal but was unlucky not to cross the white line. Unfortunately a break was made by Monkstown midfielder player which changed the score line to 1-0 for the home side. A great effort was made by young Laois goalie Daisy to stop the powerful strike from the  Monkstown player. However the Laois ladies reacted quickly with great link up play from midfield player Ciara to eagerly awaiting forward player Suzi who passed the ball accurately across the circle to Ellen who swept the ball pass the opponent goalie, to level the score line again.

The third quarter both sides returned to the pitch with great energy again. This time the Laois back line were under fire but the Laois defenders remained calm under this pressure. There were a number of great clearances from the back line players towards the Laois goals, which allowed Laois captain Jenny to find an opposition foot in the circle. The Laois side prepared themselves for their first short corner of the game, with a strong injection from Molly to Ciara who perfectly struck a powerful shot on goal and found the backboard putting the Laois side ahead. However the home side reacted again quickly and unfortunately also found the backboard putting the game to a draw again.

The final quarter and both sides were feeling the cold November afternoon but continued to play with their best foot forward. There were a number of attempts on both sides to change the scoreline however neither side were successful and resulting in a draw match.

The Laois side are in action again next week at home in Loreto as they welcome Railway Union 5s team for their last game before the Christmas break.

A special thank you to team manager Buen and all the supporters who braved the cold elements.
